Another 5-Incher: KSD V9P

Another 5-Incher: KSD V9P

ksd-v9p

It seems that with each passing week model after model from brand after brand is announced, pressed-out and photographed. This evening it is the KSD V9P - part of the KSD V-Series of HD players. The KSD V9P player is a 5-inch player with a screen resolution of 800x472 capable of up to 1280p video playback (1920x1280) - the hallmark of Sochip SC9800 chip characterised by the ability to play 1280p videos. The video file format support, therefore, is expected to be strong including MKV, AVI, MP4, WMV, MPG, VOB, FLV etc. The standard array of audio file formats and image/TXT file formats are present, along with a battery of 1500mAh that supposedly allows for up to 15 hours of video playback… but not at 1280p, I’ll tell you. All in all this is another player that uses the Sochip SC9800 - that means it will have great battery life and impressive video playback capability. But it is just another one, if you catch my drift. Nothing special, cookie-cutter, but performs well and is not expected to break the bank. It starts in 8GB flavour, which is an interesting move and one that I hope takes as being a standard, replacing the 4GB variants that so many manufacturers choose to debut.

iToos M8HDP Joins The Fray

iToos M8HDP Joins The Fray

itoos-m8hdp

The 5-inch Chinese PMP market is, shall we say, saturated with a huge variety of models and brands each providing similar performance to the other and therefore creating no clear cut ‘best’ and ‘worst’ list. iToos recently has added to the complication further with their M8HDP 5-inch player utilizing the Boxchip (so most probably a Sochip) and capable of playing 1080p videos (most likely the Sochip SC9800 variant). The screen resolution runs at 800x480 and the player supports the standard array of video file formats including MKV, AVI, WMV, MPG, VOB etc. Considering the power of the chip, this player will do very well with video. Starts out in 8GB flavour.

The good people over at zol have done a comparison review article on 5 popular 1080p players, arguably some of the heavyweights on the market.  Among the 5 players compared there is the RAmos T13FHD, the Ainol V9000HDA, the Onda VX575, Gemei HD8800 and last but not least the Teclast T56. From the video performance to the UI, picture viewer and e-reader functionality are all compared and noted upon, with the advantages and disadvantanges of each commented on, the comparison article proves useful for those who are embroiled in a battle of which PMP player to choose.

ICOO E100P: New 4.3-Inch Player

ICOO E100P: New 4.3-Inch Player

icoo-e100p

We recently blogged about the ICOO E300P, a 4.3-inch player (more remarkable was the $45 USD price tag) and it seems that another one is on the horizon from ICOO: the E100P, also a 4.3-inch player. Both the E300P and the E100P support up to 1280p playback - that’s 1920 x 1280 - and so, the only differentiating factor that immediately strikes the eye is the look of the player, with the E100P offering a smoother and more rounded aesthetic. The 4GB model will come in at an estimated 299 Yuan, which is approximately also $45 USD which is a little remarkable. Specs follow.

  • Screen: 4.3-inch, 480  x 272

  • Support for: MKV, MOV, RMVB, RM, AVI, PMP, DAT, FLV, VOB, MP4, MPG, 3GP

  • Support for MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE, AAC, OGG

  • Support for JPG, BMP, GIF

  • OTG functionality

  • Starts at 4GB

Onda VP30 and VP50 w/ GPS

Onda VP30 and VP50 w/ GPS

onda-vp-30

Onda have a 6-inch 800x480 VP50 and a 5-inch VP30, both entering the market in the 4GB storage flavour, and both featuring GPS functionality, which is pretty cool I suppose. Both feature a 3D virtual map, which certainly looks snazzy in the above pictured photograph. Am not totally sure about the extent of functionality of the map, but needless to say this sort of thing isn’t that common in PMPs.

Philips GoGear Spark - Inspiration Lost on Design Front?

philips-spark

Those folk at iMP3 really do know their stuff, this time reviewing the Philips Spark, a mini 1.5-inch player that looks sort of snazzy for an MP3 player but you sort of wonder why it has a picture view option anyway.

Specs of the small device are as follows: with 1.5-inch TFT color screen; supports MP3, WMA, APE, FLAC and other audio formats players; provides ‘Acoustic sound’ support; supports audio books; provides personalized power settings; nominal audio life time of 22 hours; supports voice recording; supports FM FM radio function; supports picture browse function; comes with music management software; USB2.0 high-speed transmission.

But let’s face it. The design of the Philips Spark leaves a lot to be desired. It’s almost round enough to play ping pong with.

Cowon’s D3 to be Android powered? Yes, Sir!

Even since the Teclast T58 was purported to be the first Android PMP, a slew of manufacturers have jumped on the band-wagon and released Google-powered Android media players (not limited to the Philips GoGear Connect, Archos’ new tablets, and even the iRiver K2).

In an unprecedented move by the Korean-based firm, Cowon are about to ride the Android wave with their yet-to-be-released Cowon D3 according to Journal Du Geek. We’re not too sure whether this is a good or bad thing - check out the sentiments shared by anythingbutipod.

Half-baked attempts to integrate Android within mobile phones have been seen in devices like the HTC Magic (even though the firmware improved over time with new revisions). Cowon’s attempt to appease Google could come at a price to the respected Cowon brand.

The D3 is purported to be slated for a summer release, following just behind the recently released S9 and J3 players.
